The Swamp

Oh Man! Where have I been?

The answer is, “Off wandering in the dark swamps of 3D printing.”

With this posting, I am attempting to swear myself back on path and the tract to real quality craft-making activities such as lost wax casting.

I have been on a deep dive into the world of 3D printing. Fifteen 3D print machines later I realize I have totally abandoned the the high value and quality projects and the use of old-school materials and techniques of the true crafts-person.

I have designed and created really cool items in plastic with 3D printing, I have published several blogs showing off my work. Links to those blogs are listed on the first page of this blog.

It is the designing of 3D that I enjoyed. The actual printing was more an exercise in machine trouble shooting, maintenance and repairs. Far more upkeep than the machines and hand tools of a real craft work. I have been not much more than a CAD designer, feeding and maintaining a fully automated production machine.

I am ready to rekindle the feeling of putting myself into the items I create, with that “hands on” stage of human-touch active production.

I suspect I may be a bit “rusty” at first, but I’ll re-learn quickly.

Not the first time I published this “return” desire.

Let’s see if I can stay on this course…
